This blog is intended for all descendants and interested researchers of Isaac Carter, born about 1773 in Virginia, who married first Lydia Newstead and 2nd Sarah Redmond. Isaac lived in Fauquier County, Virginia, USA until about 1850.
There are many researchers who have spent hundreds of hours working on Isaac and his descendants and we still have thousands of questions.
Who was Isaac's father? When did Isaac die? Why can't we find him, his wife, and several of his children in the 1850 census? Was his son Ezekiel the child of Lydia or Sarah? Did Ezekiel marry Malinda Redmond? Why did Ezekiel go to Baltimore after the war when his siblings went to Montgomery County, Maryland, USA? Is Peggy Carter, mother of Arthur James, Bushrod and Allen Carter a daughter of Isaac? Was the father of some of her children Isaac Dennis? Was Eliza Carter, who was the mother of Turner Ashby, one of Isaac's daughters. Was Alverna Isaac and Sarah's child? Is Wilford Redmond Malinda's son from a previous encounter or was he the son of Ezekiel. The questions we all have could fill a book.
Several descendants of Isaac have had their Y-DNA tested. More need to be tested so we can be certain that we have "Isaac's" DNA. Family finder DNA tests are needed to see if we can determine if Ezekiel is the son of Lydia or Sarah, and if Peggy, Eliza and Alverna are Isaac's daughters. How is Arthur Lee Carter, who died in Baltimore in 1899, and whose DNA matches other descendants of Isaac related to Isaac? Is Arthur the father of Drucilla Carter who is also in the home with Octavia Redmond? What happened to Drucilla?
Please feel free to share your thoughts on this blog. This is not only for proven genealogical research but opinions and theories are also welcome. It would be great to have a feel for what life was like for Isaac and his family. There were extremely poor and uneducated in the 1800's. Why did they enlist in the war? They had no slaves. What was the area called the "Free State" like?
